Imphal, Sep.14 (EMN): The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Director Prof. A Santa Singh on Wednesday highlighted newly installed equipment and world class facilities in the different faculties and hospital setups apart from various infrastructure developments, during a programme celebrating its 51st foundation day.
After installing a new state-of-the-art 3-Tesla MRI machine during the COVID-19, five new modular operation theatres with all state-of-the-art accessories were inaugurated in August 2022, he said.
One 64 slice CT scan machine for radio diagnosis, one 32 slice CT scan machine for trauma care centre, one high-end surgical microscope was commissioned in the Neurosurgery department besides one more Cryogenic Liquid Medical Oxygen plant having a storage capacity of 10 KL were commissioned in the institute, he added.
Now with this installation, besides introducing new set ups for paediatrics and gynecology, the institute is preparing to provide world class health care services to the people, he said.
Medical Superintendent Dr. N Sanjib of RIMS, former RIMS directors Prof. L Fimate and Dr. S Rita also spoke on the occasion.
The 51-year-old institute has so far produced 3,656 doctors, 2101 specialists,199 Bachelor of Dental Surgery doctors,329 BSc. nurses and 67 MPhil students in clinical psychology since its establishment in 1972.
Presently, 484 undergraduate medical students, 409 post graduate students,199 Bachelors of Dental Surgery,16 MSc. nursing students,203 BSc. nursing students are on roll. The corresponding numbers for MCh/DM courses are 15 (on roll) and 23 (passed), he added.
“The institute is proud to produce these medical and nursing professionals and thus contribute to the country’s health care system,” he said.
The Executive Council of RIMS in July last year, had agreed to increase the number of PG seats in the departments of radio-diagnosis, anesthesiology and orthopedics from the existing two to six, 10 to 22 and two to four respectively. It also agreed to the starting of an Emergency Medicine course (MD) and DM course in cardiology.
Release of medical journal, annual report 2021-22, distribution of the prizes and certificates to the meritorious medical students of the institute, presentation to the current director were the main highlights of the foundation day celebration.
RIMS had ranked 43rd position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework of Human Resource Development (NIRF) ranking 2020-21, released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. AIIMS, New Delhi, PGI Chandigarh and CMC Vellore are the top three ranked institutions in the rankings.
